THE ASK
Create an engaging and interactive intermission show called “Between Two Mariles” that features new content about the players. MLSE requested an animated title screen, a dynamic player profile, a scoreboard and a question card overlay. All these elements should be easy and quick for MLSE to customize.
Watch the First Cut of “Between 2 Marlies” below, featuring Adam Brooks & Timothy Lilijegren. To make each video unique with different players, games and questions, I had to design and build Motion Graphics Templates (.mogrt) that the MLSE internal team could edit in Adobe Premier instead of After Effects. This was a fun and challenging twist to a standard video project.
THE CHALLENGE
I’m used to creating mogrts for animations, especially for recurring videos like interviews or commentary. They make editing in Premier much easier than in After Effects. The tricky part was the scoreboard. I made every element of the scoreboard editable, from the timer, and player pictures, to the right or wrong answers and timer. The scoreboard looks simple, but it was a complex challenge to make it work for a full team roster and even potential new players & staff.
HAPPY RESULT
These videos played on the big screens and around the arena until the 2018/2019 season. MLSE was pleased with the fast delivery of the project (2 days). These templates and animations enabled the in-house broadcast team to create more lively and interactive content for fans after the game.
